How many customers does your MRR target need?

Divide your target MRR by your monthly price and round up — that's the number of paying customers you must win and keep every month. At $9/month, a $10K target means 1,112 customers; at $99/month it's 102. This one division kills more solo ideas than any competitor does: low-ticket pricing quietly demands consumer-scale distribution.

You need 205 paying customers at $49/month to reach $10,000 MRR.

How to read the number

  • Under ~150 customers — reachable with content + communities for a niche B2B tool. This is the solo sweet spot.
  • 150–1,000 — you need a repeatable acquisition channel, not just launches. Most solo founders underestimate this tier.
  • 1,000+ — consumer-scale distribution at a solo budget. Raise the price or change the buyer; volume won't save a $5/month product.

Churn makes it worse: at 5% monthly churn, holding 200 customers means replacing ~10 every month before you grow at all.
